Landscaping Ideas to Make the Most of Your Backyard

by J Newton Excavations, Tuesday, January 19, 2021

A frequent question we get asked at J Newton Excavations in terms of landscaping is ‘How can I make the most of my backyard?’

To answer this, we’ve created this guide, ensuring that you get the maximum bang for your buck where your outdoor space is concerned.

Before we share our tips, perhaps the most important piece of advice is that before you start transforming your backyard, you need to have a clear blueprint in your mind about the aesthetic you want to achieve, and how you’re going to achieve it.

Landscaping can be tricky, so this is the best way to avoid unwanted headaches. After all, backyards are supposed to be an oasis of relaxation.

Choose the Right Plants

When landscaping your backyard, choosing the right plants is key. Whether you select plant boxes or hanging baskets, flowers have long been used to make gardens look bigger.

A collection of some of Australia’s most popular plants, such as the Snowy River Wattle and Tea Trees, will help turn your backyard into your own tropical sanctuary.

Creates Privacy

As well as offering little bursts of colour, Snowy River Wattle plants and Tea Trees also have a practical element. They can both grow to approximately 3 metres tall, and so can be an alternative, more natural way of providing you and your family with some privacy from your neighbours, and vice versa.

They are a perfect example of hitting two birds with one stone! Using plants rather than bits of fencing can also create a more timeless, rustic look for your yard.

Invest in Your Grass

Close your eyes and think of your dream backyard. Admit it, you’re thinking of a yard that has thick, lush grass!

Creating a space with a wide grassy area for the kids to play, for a pet to run around, or as a place where you can lay on a blanket and sunbathe is usually on every homeowner's wish list.

Whether you choose artificial grass or real turf, a green lawn is very appealing to buyers during house viewings, so if you're thinking of moving in the future, it's a worthwhile investment.

At J Newton Excavations, we can help you recreate a yard full of grass that will even turn the neighbours green! With our earthmoving services, it’s never been easier to achieve a plush new space.

Creates a Centrepiece

With your new landscaping complete, the last thing to do to make full use out of your backyard is to add a captivating centrepiece.

Be this a fire pit for late-night marshmallow toasting, or a water fountain for a more luxurious aesthetic, having a centrepiece that grabs your attention is a great final touch.
